THE STATE TEAM
State Director
|

Hi, I'm John Romano, the State Director of
Maine. My wife, Ronna and I have two children, Rachelle and Anthony,
and a foster son, Robert Richards.
Even though I heard the Gospel many
times in my earlier years, I chose to live a life of rebellion. I
believe
today
that God used the faithfulness, love and prayers of my parents to bring
me to Himself in 1973 at age twenty-two.
I was saved while
stationed at Otis Air
Force Base
in Massachusetts. I was 22 years old at the time, and believe it to
be
the most significant event in my life. I received Christ in the privacy
of our living room after reading a simple Gospel invitation from the
book
of Romans. The invitation closed with Romans 10:13, "For whosoever
shall
call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." That day I believed
that I was a
sinner,
that the wages of sin were death, but that Christ had died for me. I
asked
the Lord Jesus to forgive me on the basis of His death in my place. I
got
up from my knees forgiven and a part of the family of God.
My two children Rachelle and
Anthony, were both saved at an early age. Our foster son, Robert was
saved at Camp Good News. The children were instrumental in impressing
upon us the importance
of ministry to children. I did not want my children to share my
testimony
of rebellion but rather the testimony of Timothy, " Who from a child
knew
the Scriptures which were able to make him wise unto salvation."
My Christian service began as
pastor of the Washington Street
Baptist Church in
Eastport, Maine
from July 1977 to June 1986.
Beginning in June 1986, I became
the State Director with Child
Evangelism
Fellowship of Maine®, Inc. and attended the three month Children's
Ministries Institute in Warrenton, Mo. shortly thereafter.
Being a part of Child Evangelism
Fellowship®,
Inc. has given me many
opportunities
to reach children with the Gospel of Christ. |
| State
Coordinators |
| Melanie
and Vernelle work together as State Ministry
Coordinators. They
are involved in the planning of all state programs such as Camp Good
News,
Christian Youth In Action® Training School, etc.
They are responsible for most of the curriculum as well as training
classes
where needed and teach a Good News Club in
their home. |

Melanie Mulherin grew up
in Litchfield,
Maine. She came to know the Lord at age 19 through the witness of a
friend.
After working at a secular job for eight years, the Lord spoke to her
heart
about attending Glen Cove Bible College. Contacts with Edna Sawyer, the
state director of C.E.F. at that time, were used to bring her into the
work
full time in 1974. She attended the Children's Ministries Institute
in
1978. |

Vernelle Fast grew
up in a
Christian home in
Minnesota. She received Christ
at a young age and knew God's call to full-time service as a child. She
attended Oak Hills Bible Institute and then went on to the Children's
Ministries Institute. After serving almost nine years with C.E.F.
of New Hampshire, she joined the C.E.F. staff in Maine in 1977. |
