Camp Good News® History

Camp Good News® , under the direction of Child Evangelism Fellowship of Maine, Inc.® , began in 1970 by renting the Baptist Youth Camp in Charlotte. Since that time we have also rented facilities in Naples, Mapleton and Brooks.

From the very beginning we had been praying for our own permanent campsite and God chose this one for us!! " Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think , according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him [be] glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. " Eph. 3: 20,21

In December 1991, the Board of Circle L Camp in East Livermore graciously gave to CEF of Maine® their campgrounds. We are so grateful to God for this answer to prayer. Though CEF of Maine Inc.® is the legal owner of the property, the real owner is all of us. Ownership is in our hearts and belongs to all of us who believe that camp is a place where God has a great opportunity to work in lives. Back to the Top

A few words from our Camp Director John Romano

". .. The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. " Luke 10:2

The Harvest
There is a great field of children at Camp Good News® every summer. And every summer God grants a "great harvest". The need today is the same as it was in Jesus' day - laborers. The solution is the same - ask the Lord of the harvest to provide needed staff.

We are praying for staff.
Will you come to camp for a week? You will be tired by the time it is over, but what a good and rewarding "tired" it will be. I do enjoy seeing camp staff find God's grace and God's strength sufficient for them day by day. I enjoy their fellowship as friendships are made that last a lifetime. I thank Him that those who serve are truly laying up treasures in heaven.

For Families
For families, there is even a daily camp program for staff children who are under camper age. Did you know that for every adult who serves as staff a camper comes for free? And, of course, there is no charge for staff or for children who are not yet camper age.

Volunteers are a BLESSING
For the past thirty years Camp Good News has been staffed primarily by volunteers. Approximately 250 adults and teens serve with us each summer. What a blessing it is to see folks serve out of love for the Lord and their desire to minister to children through sacrificial service and fellowship with other Christians across the state. Their lives are enriched and blessed. Lord willing, I hope to see you here.

In Christ,

John Romano Camp Director

Opportunities

"ME - A COUNSELOR? "

To a camper, the most important person at camp is a CAMP COUNSELOR!
We have a SENIOR and JUNIOR COUNSELOR in each cabin of 6 - 8 children. We desire that the Senior Counselor be a "mom" or "dad." Many parents come and serve in this capacity. Our college students and high school seniors are a wonderful addition to the senior counseling staff, We prefer our Junior Counselors to be at least fifteen years of age. Some counselors are assigned to the staff children that are too young to be campers. Pray about being a part of the counseling staff.

"COME AND GET IT"

Good food is a must! Our kitchen is supervised by a qualified HEAD COOK. HELPERS who can bake, peel vegetables, and give general assistance to the cook serve faithfully throughout the week.
DISHWASHERS make up a vital part of our kitchen staff. Men, women, and teens all enjoy working in these capacities!
A DINING ROOM HOSTESS and several WAITRESSES are also needed weekly.

"CAMPERS WILL BENEFIT FROM YOUR SKILLS"

A REGISTERED NURSE is needed each week.
A WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR is required along with qualified LIFE GUARDS.
ACTIVITY LEADERS for outdoor living, riflery, canoeing, archery, sports, handcrafts, etc. help campers develop or learn new skills. The nature program needs expertise to help the children appreciate God and His wonderful creation.
Two qualified BIBLE TEACHERS train children in God's Word each week.

"MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK"

Each week some men serve on the MAINTENANCE CREW helping with the general repair and upkeep of the grounds as well as the building projects.
TRADING POST WORKERS run our camp store and sometimes our errands. There is service for everyone. Back to the Top

Here is feedback from some of the volunteers

A pastor who served as a counselor writes:
"The week sharpens my focus on evangelism. I always find I am better equipped to serve my church after coming to Camp Good News®"

A mother who served as a counselor writes:
"Throughout the week the Lord reminded me of His promises as I shared His love with campers. I did not feel the tiredness, though I was warned it would happen toward the end of the week. Instead, my heart is bubbling over with joy of another opportunity of serving Christ. "

A college student writes:
"Being a mom to eight girls was a blast. We all grew together and I learned how to depend more on God to give me answers to their questions instead of trying to answer them on my own. "

Jesus, the wonderful counselor, said. " - - In as much as you did it to one of the least of these my brethern, you did it unto Me." Matthew 25:40
